QIGONG

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a 5000 year old Chinese science of longevity, human potential, and development. There are over 3’000 styles of Qigong. The most commonly known style in the West is Tai Chi. Qigong is an exercise form to harmonize body, breath and spirit. It is based on Daoism (Taoism), an ancient Chinese philosophy which emphasizes living in harmony with nature. The Chinese philosopher and author of the “Tao te Ching”, Lao Tzu (Laozi), is considered the founding father of philosophical Daoism. Qigong is one of the 4 main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), alongside acupuncture, herbal medicine and medical massage.

What is Daoist Medical Qigong?

Daoist Medical Qigong was developed over 2’000 years ago. Daoist practitioners found that patients were healing faster when incorporating dynamic exercises into their daily routine. The physician to the King, Hua Tuo, created 5 Animal Qigong, the first Medical Qigong form. Its primary objectives were prevention, recovery and rehabilitation. Chinese medicine recognizes stagnation caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, environmental factors and suppressed or excessive emotions as the primary sources of pathogenetic stress and illness. Qigong provides a tool to deal with these challenges.

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.”

Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher and author of “Tao te Ching”

What is White Tiger Qigong?

swissqigong practices White Tiger Qigong, a very dynamic form of Qigong and sub-branch of Daoist Medical Qigong. The practice activates energy flow (Qi) in the body through pulsing Acupressure points, and by wringing out Meridians or energy pathways like a towel and organs like a sponge. It strengthens bones and muscles through deep stances.

White Tiger Qigong takes Applied Classical Chinese Medicine Theory and combines it with concepts of modern sports science. It uses the principles of Kinetic Chains – how segments and joints in the body affect one another – and anatomy to understand movement, and activates the fascia lines in the body by moving the spine and extremities in all directions. It uses nerve, tissue and joint flossing through gliding and twisting movements within the body’s full range of motion to activate circulation and blood flow.

White Tiger Qigong follows Daoist principles by teaching to move and flow with the 5 Elements of Nature, embody the spirit of animals, and balance Yin & Yang. While Modern Medical Qigong focuses on symptomatic treatment, White Tiger Qigong aims at transforming emotions into new behavioral patterns through conscious movement, breathing and meditation techniques.

What are the benefits?

By practicing Qigong, you will get strong, flexible, and feel free in your body and the way you move. It is a fascial training that increases your mobility and gives you energy and vitality. You recover faster from illness and injury. You develop your own tools to stay healthy and will need to rely less on external treatment as a result.

The ultimate objective of Qigong is longevity. Using ancient Daoist principles of biohacking and lifestyle changes to improve your wellbeing, Qigong contributes to your physical, mental and cognitive health and performance. Qigong increases your focus and concentration, and helps you deal with negative emotions.

It improves sleep, strengthens the immune system, tonifies the organs, balances hormones, gives you energy, and helps you deal with stress and common body pains such as lower back pain, neck pain and headaches.

ABOUT

Sibylle

I always liked to move. When I was younger, I did lots of Judo, fitness and later on Thai Boxing. I’ve been riding horses since I was young and have always loved spending time in nature. During my studies and while building my corporate career, I developed back and neck pain. So I dialed back the intensity of my training and started incorporating Yoga. The pain increased during periods of stress or when I experienced worry or anxiety. I turned to acupuncture, massage and various relaxation techniques to try and treat it.

I experimented with different yoga styles for years, all with limited success and only short-term pain relief. I started searching for Qigong and tried a few classes, but they were not dynamic enough. I kept searching for a low-impact martial arts practice, and in 2019 I discovered White Tiger Qigong. I went to Southeast Asia for an intensive training and was hooked immediately.

I had found the perfect fusion of Chinese Medicine and Sports Science, two topics I’d always been interested in.

And the differences after a short while of daily practice were significant: Less body pain, better sleep, and able to face everyday challenges with clarity, decisiveness and a calm mind. I feel better now at age 44 than I have in a long time. I spent over 3 months training Qigong intensively in Thailand and Vietnam since and have completed 1000 hours of Teacher Trainings to date.

In the same time period, I left the corporate world and founded my own Marketing & Communications Agency. I now organize my day as an entrepreneur around the Qigong practice – rather than the other way around.

To the extent that we learn to live with nature – with our own, each other, and the earth – we have freedom, power, and purpose and can enjoy life. To the extent we do not, we suffer.”

I started martial arts (Kyokushin Karate) at the age of 5 and have been competing internationally since 2001, ranking 1st in the Middle East and Asia, and 4th worldwide in Kyokushin Karate. 10 years ago I created my company and holistic fitness concept D’rip Fitness. I founded D’rip with the intention to change the way people train. I made it my everything to research and find ways where I could integrate and mix methods to create faster, stronger and more impactful results. My journey of seeking to reach my full potential lead me to the mind, body and soul connection. I came to realize that being strong in one of these is not enough.

To optimize our performance we need to heal and build and maintain balance. I was about to retire from competitive combat sports when I started studying Chinese Medicine and practicing Qigong, while looking for ways to heal my body because I felt fatigued and drained. That’s when I came across White Tiger Qigong. The dynamic practice, combined with deep elements of relaxation and meditation, not only helped me to balance and store my energy, heal and recover, but gave me the tools to empower myself to explore my potential further. At age 34 I feel stronger and healthier than ever before. Integrating the best of all these concepts and help others reach their goals and dreams is the passion I share through my D’rip training – that’s where it all comes together.

During the last 17 years, I have learned Balinese massage and studied aromatherapy, macrobiotic nutrition, Chinese medicine and yoga. I had my own studio as a therapist and supported women in search for a new lifestyle based on women’s health and beauty – all rooted in ancient wisdom. From 2011 to 2013, I ran a vegetarian cafe and yoga studio called “The Yoga Place” in Bangkok, Thailand, where I was a chef and the main yoga teacher. Since then, I have traveled to Thailand, Indonesia, Bhutan, Nepal, China and many other countries for Yoga Teacher Trainings, and have gained in-depth knowledge about a wide range of cultural and religious traditions across Asia. I have found that Asian countries have great wisdom that has developed hundreds and thousands of years.

Being Japanese, the roots of my soul are in the Asian culture. I’m 47 years old and leading Yin Yoga Japan across Japan as a Yin Yoga teacher. My approach is a challenging teaching style that combines both ancient Chinese wisdom and the latest Fascia research from Sports Science. There are many similarities with the teachings of White Tiger Qigong. I am convinced that the way we create, use and store energy with this Qigong offers many answers to the questions I’ve been looking for. Studying and practicing White Tiger Qigong helps me to deepen my learnings of Eastern traditions and culture and provides an opportunity to study continuously and to keep sharing my knowledge with the world.
